Our boy Batman is 7 years old, I’ve had him since the age of 3 years. He’s an amazing cat and such a gent!
Well, October of 2023 I noticed a dime sized lump on his right hind leg, just above his hock and below his stifle. My gut dropped when I found that lump, suspecting the worse. I made an appointment with our vet to have it looked at, she recommended having a biopsy. After a few weeks this small lump grew into the size of a ping pong ball and a biopsy was scheduled and completed.
Towards the end of November before thanksgiving we got the call that dropped my heart to my stomach. Cancer. That following Monday I had scheduled radiographs with my vet to make sure it hadn’t spread anywhere.
With much consultation from my friends and family and deliberation and reassurance of Batman’s amazing vet and team we made the decision. We didn’t want to wait or chance alternative treatments and give this aggressive cancer time to spread. On December 19th Batman had major surgery to have his right hind leg amputated.
It breaks my heart for him, it’s honestly one of the most difficult decisions we’ve had to make.
I’m gracious for this community and having a space the share Batman’s story and recovery ❤️🩹
Aww we are so sorry you had to join our club but so glad you found us! Yes it IS a tough decision. But you’ll see as time goes on, that Batman is going to enjoy his life just as much as he would have on four.
Let us know if we can do anything to help you guys with recovery and life on three! And kudos to your vet team for being so amazing and immediately recommending a biopsy. This is a huge lesson all of us learn here, is to always check those little weird areas, just in case. Cancer can sprout up overnight as you now know, and the sooner we can treat it the better for everyone. YAY for you acting quickly and giving Batman a chance at a great life! Welcome!
